Large initial imports now show useful progress as newsletters are added. “Checking your selected folders…” clears when the import moves on, and a known source total brings an imported count, percentage, and progress bar that advances with the work.

Large libraries recover more smoothly while accounts sync and newsletters arrive. Letterboxx keeps available newsletters in place, avoids unnecessary work in the list you are reading, and shows fewer misleading Library failure messages. This builds on the large-library responsiveness improvements in 1.0.15.

Finish setup with your Library ready.

Account Setup now builds your complete selected library before returning you to Letterboxx. It gives adding or reconnecting an account a clearer finish, with your imported newsletters ready when setup ends.

Bring the older newsletters along, too.

Letterboxx is more dependable about working through the newsletter history in your selected folders and labels. Long imports keep their progress, and later background imports can add completed groups while you read.

A “Building Your Library” screen explains the initial import, shows which source is being prepared, and gives useful progress when counts are available. Setup controls stay within reach on smaller Mac displays. Dashboard shows “Updating Dashboard…” while its information catches up.

Less disruption while your Library gets ready

Letterboxx waits for overlapping account work to settle and resumes preparing the Library automatically. The reading list, counts, and Dashboard catch up together as saved newsletters become ready. If recovery really stops, Retry remains available and clearly shows that it is working.

Selected folders stay part of your Library

Letterboxx waits for the selected folders or labels to finish their initial import and checks that saved newsletters are ready to show. Empty folders finish with no newsletters to add and stay connected for newsletters that arrive later. Newsletters found in more than one selected folder are still brought together in your Library.

A clearer path through your newsletter history

Import progress follows the selected source, including Outlook folders and Gmail labels. Initial Account Setup waits for the complete selected library before showing Ready. During later background imports, each saved group can become available as it finishes.

Progress that matches the work

Setup keeps its navigation below scrollable content and shows progress when the source total is known. When the total is unknown, it shows an ongoing progress indicator. Dashboard keeps its quiet loading presentation until its information is ready.

Letterboxx stays more responsive while your newsletter library loads. You can get to recent newsletters while the rest of the Library gets ready.

A lighter load on your Mac.

Loading a large newsletter library now uses substantially less memory, leaving more room for the other things you are doing on your Mac.

Big lists should not bring everything to a halt.

Switching between large lists such as Inbox, All, and Unread is more dependable. I fixed the transition work that could leave Letterboxx stuck while it rebuilt thousands of rows.

Search, read, and get back to your Library.

Search works more smoothly with large collections, and closing Search reliably brings you back to the full list. Returning to your newsletters should feel as ordinary as opening them.

Older newsletters keep making their way in.

Background imports are more dependable about continuing through older newsletters and showing their progress. Newly available newsletters appear as completed import work reaches the Library.

A steadier Library between checks.

New newsletters, Sidebar counts, and Statistics stay better coordinated as your Library changes. Updates to another Letterboxx do less work in the list you are reading.

Library loading keeps the workspace responsive

The full Library is prepared in the background and shared with the list, counts, Statistics, and Search. Recent newsletters can appear first without making each part of the app load the entire collection again.

Smaller pieces, less memory pressure

Letterboxx loads the Library in smaller pieces and releases temporary work as it goes. The complete reading library stays available without keeping every underlying mail record loaded at once.

A steadier handoff between large lists

Large filter changes now give the Mac list a fresh presentation instead of asking it to reconcile thousands of row changes at once. Newsletters that remain selected keep their selection through the handoff.

Search shares the prepared Library

Search uses the same prepared newsletter content as the rest of the Library. Returning from a large result set follows the same stable list handoff as switching filters.

Completed import work reaches the same Library view

Older-history work records its progress and publishes completed additions through the shared library update path. Account and source status use that saved progress instead of guessing from a single check.

Focused updates preserve the current reading list

Completed additions update the shared Library and the affected lists together. When an update belongs elsewhere, the current Letterboxx can keep its reading list in place.

Setting up Letterboxx makes a lot more sense now.

Adding or updating an account now follows one clear path: choose your folders or labels, decide where those newsletters belong, and watch Letterboxx build the Library. If you already use Letterboxx, you return to your Library instead of getting dumped back into setup.

I fixed a nasty Gmail-label bug.

There were situations where newsletters from Gmail labels could disappear from a Letterboxx even though they were still assigned there. Nothing had been moved or lost—Letterboxx just was not showing them where it should.

Letterboxx feels more like a Mac app.

The main window got out of its own way. The extra title row is gone, the active Inbox, filter, Letterboxx, or Search gets the right kind of emphasis, and the list and reader have a calmer place to live.

I've done a ton of work on performance.

As your Library grows, Letterboxx now spends less time rebuilding the same picture of it. The list, counts, and Statistics have a much better chance of agreeing with each other—and the app can settle down after it opens instead of staying busy for no reason.

Move something. Delete something. Change your mind. Undo it.

That sounds like pretty basic Mac stuff. It should be. Moving or deleting a newsletter now updates the Library right away, and Undo puts the newsletter, its list, and its sidebar count back where they belong.

A newsletter row is a row. You should be able to click it anywhere. That works again, including unread newsletters, without breaking the native drag, swipe, and contextual actions that belong there too.

The newsletter you pick should be the one you read.

I tightened the handoff between the list and the reader, so selecting a newsletter is less likely to leave the wrong thing—or a stale row—hanging around while you are trying to read.

Automatic Backup won't pretend it's ready when it isn't.

Turning on Automatic Backup now means choosing a folder first. Cancel the folder picker and it stays off. I'd much rather Letterboxx tell the truth about whether your backup is actually configured.

One account flow, from selected source to local Library

First-run setup and later account management share the provider-aware connection flow. It preserves selected folders and labels in context, runs a real first check, records source destinations and read-status choices, and keeps the Library-building handoff active through account work.

Persisted Gmail assignments now reconcile into the visible library

The Gmail-label repair keeps the persisted Letterboxx assignment intact while reconciling it into the prepared visible library. Letterboxx counts and Statistics now use the same assignment semantics, so the stored relationship and the library presentation agree.

Compact window chrome and stable pane handoff

The workspace now uses compact native titlebar treatment with a dedicated message-list header and reader actions in their proper pane. Selection, layout, and preview handoff paths were narrowed so the three columns do not introduce redundant title-bar treatment or destabilize the active reader.

Prepared library view, newest-first index, and quiet idle

Provider copies now resolve through a canonical newsletter representation, and Library presentation, counts, and Statistics share the prepared view instead of rebuilding it independently. A compatible received-date index supports the newest-first path, and measured idle work after Library presentation was removed without giving up full-row selection or native dragging.

Incremental organization reconciliation

Context-menu moves and drag/drop share the same incremental organization path. Delete and Trash reconcile the active list immediately; Undo restores the source relationship, removes the destination state, and repairs visible rows and sidebar counts without a full refresh.

AppKit keeps ownership of row interaction

The competing SwiftUI tap recognizer was removed from the table-backed list path. A hit-tested pointer-focus handoff restores focus, while AppKit continues to own selection, drag recognition, contextual actions, swipe actions, and unread-row behavior.

Selected-row and reader-preview reconciliation

Message-list reconciliation now coordinates the selected record, visible row, and reader preview more tightly through presentation changes. The repair complements incremental move, delete, and undo updates rather than reloading the full library.

A valid destination is now a prerequisite

Automatic Backup validates a usable security-scoped destination before enabling the preference. Cancellation leaves the setting disabled, and old enabled-without-a-folder preferences are normalized before the backup-on-quit path runs.

Organizing your Library became less of a leap of faith.

Editing an account now keeps the folders you already chose in view, and Outlook can show nested folders without making similarly named ones a guessing game. Before deleting a Letterboxx, you choose where its newsletters go—and there is an Undo if you change your mind.

Preserved source choices and deletion routing

Account editing retains selected sources through the first-check flow; Outlook discovery keeps full nested paths visible; and Letterboxx deletion asks for a local destination before removing the container, then offers Undo. Sidebar compact-row behavior and the New/Edit Letterboxx sheet were refined without changing original mail accounts.

A pile of little paper cuts got attention.

Automatic Backup can now finish before Letterboxx quits. The list is easier to scroll, select, and drag from, and a drop gets a proper little delivery moment. I also gave What's New its own real Mac window, made Fastmail feel like a first-class provider, and added a few missing Message Diagnostics details.

Backup completion, native interaction, and diagnostics

Backup-on-quit now completes its save instead of leaving the app behind a stuck save surface. The list received focused scroll, selection, focus, and drag/drop repairs with immediate destination feedback; account UI uses Fastmail consistently; and Message Diagnostics can recover a recipient from saved raw headers while its source disclosures accept the full row.

After an update, Letterboxx can give you a quick native tour of the things worth knowing, and you can reopen it from Help whenever you want. This release also added Clean View shortcuts, a deliberate fresh-start tool, and Dark Mode through setup.

Version-aware tour and Mac commands

The app records an eligible release version when it schedules the native What's New tour, preventing repeated automatic presentation while allowing Help to reopen it. Help also links to the web Release Notes, Check for Updates opens Apple's Updates page, Clean View gained keyboard commands, and Hard Reset clears local app data on that Mac after confirmation.

Setup learned the difference between new and already set up.

If you had already connected accounts, updating Letterboxx no longer sent you through first-run setup again. I also fixed a particularly silly add-account bug where the provider you picked could open the generic mail form instead of its own setup.

Launch now recognizes restored account setup before presenting first-run onboarding. Provider selection resolves to its own setup form, source selection never auto-selects Inbox, large folder and label lists are searchable, and a live receipt preserves selected sources and their chosen Letterboxx destinations before import.

Outlook setup stopped getting stuck after sign-in.

Outlook, Hotmail, Live, MSN, and Microsoft 365 accounts now use the Microsoft connection that actually gets you through setup and into your chosen folders. Saving an account also closes the Settings flow when it is finished, as it should.

Microsoft Graph instead of the failing IMAP path

Outlook-family providers moved from the IMAP XOAUTH2 session path to Microsoft sign-in and Microsoft Graph import. Folder selection is validated through Graph before save, resolving the case where authentication succeeded but the IMAP mailbox session was still refused.

A subscription hiccup should not lock you out of your own library.

If the App Store takes a moment to confirm an existing subscription, Letterboxx is better at recognizing that you already have access. The newsletter list also got calmer while new mail is arriving in the background.

Verified-access fallback and incoming rows

Launch-time access resolution can recover from recently verified StoreKit history when current entitlements are temporarily unavailable. The list's background-import update path was also refined to avoid unstable rows and a briefly empty Today view while new newsletters are reconciled.

Letterboxx became an App Store subscription app.

New customers now get a short welcome, then choose monthly or annual Letterboxx access before connecting mail. Restore Purchases is there when you need it, and the onboarding steps were given enough room to do their jobs without feeling crammed together.

Subscription access moved to StoreKit-backed monthly and annual products with Restore Purchases and Apple's purchase sheet. Account setup, sync, and import are gated on active access; onboarding window sizing became step-specific; automatic new-newsletter sounds no longer run while the app is inactive or hidden.

Every mail account can now decide whether reading a newsletter stays inside Letterboxx, goes back to the mail server, or also refreshes recent changes from the server. The setup copy also says plainly what Letterboxx is doing: importing local copies while leaving your original email where it is.

Accounts gained persisted read-status modes for local-only state, server writes, and recent-state refresh. Server work stays off the immediate reading path, refreshes use less IMAP work during sync, and unchanged account settings can save without a connection retest.
